Suggested itineraries

Even if the Ecovia do litoral is generally not described as an hard route, it can cause some trouble to untrained and unexperienced travelers, for these reasons:

  • steep hills, especially if you want to visit some of the most wonderful beaches
  • rough and bad terrain
  • strong wind
  • bad or missing signs and GPS tracks, that could lead you to get lost

So, for untrained people it is better to make shorter daily trips and sometimes to leave the main route in favor of some kilometers of paved and easy car road.

These itineraries are thought for traveling West to East, to take advantage of the wind, usually coming from the North/Northwest. Anyway, for experienced travelers it won’t be any trouble taking the route East to West, which is much better since you’ll end watching the Ocean at Cabo de São Vincente and you will find the most astonishing beaches in the last part of your itinerary.

Experienced travelers

Experienced travelers can go through the Ecovia in 4 days:

  1. Cabo de Sao Vincente – Lagos
  2. Lagos – Albufeira
  3. Albufeira – Olhão
  4. Olhão – Vila Real de Santo Antonio

Families and untrained travelers

Untrained travelers are advised to travel through the Ecovia in 7 days:

  1. Cabo de Sao Vincente – Salema
  2. Salema – Lagos
  3. Lagos – Armação de Pêra
  4. Armação de Pêra – Vilamoura
  5. Vilamoura – Faro
  6. Faro – Fuseta
  7. Fuseta – Vila Real de Santo Antonio

Buongiorno Lorenzo,

Hi! My friend and I would like to bike from Faro and end up i Lagoa. We except to do it on two days, do you think that is possible? We plan to stop somewhere and sleep one night in between the two cities. Can you recommend a city that is approximately half way? Thanks in advance,

Hi, you can do it for sure! I recommend you to stop in the Armação de Pêra area, to be close to some of the most beautiful beaches (Praia da Marinha, Praia de Benagil, etc.)
